Jack Johnson has recently completed his To The Sea Tour in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and only has shows left in Japan. A few days ago he came out with a 2010 End of Tour Report which reflects the overall impact his tour. The tour had a goal of becoming more sustainable and coordinated greening efforts with Reverb. His non-profit All At Once has a mission statement saying that “an individual action, multiplied by millions, creates global change.” According to his website, here are the efforts they achieved this year:
- In 2010, 800,246 people attended over 50 shows in 10 countries around the world.
- The tour partnered with 220 environmental non-profit groups working in all corners of the globe, reaching over 600,000 and adding more than 3,680 new members to these organizations. All At Once connected over 14,690 interested volunteers with these non-profits who brought together 6,500 people at over 40 community events.
- The Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation donated $525,000 directly to the 2010 All At Once non-profit partners. An additional $700,000 was raised by these non-profits through the All At Once matching donation program.
- 29,359 concert-goers participated in the All At Once Village Green Passport program, together completing over 105,000 individual actions, including recycling, refilling reusable bottles at water stations, carpooling, donating to local non-profit partners and more.
- Over 70,000 All At Once members took over 4,000 actions on AllAtOnce.org, over 10,000 viewed non-profit videos, and over 90,000 people visited the All At Once website to learn about the 2010 campaign focus areas of plastic free initiatives and sustainable local food systems.
- Over 5,600 people made environmental commitments online and at the All At Once Photo Booth at the shows, as part of the Capture Your Commitment contest, in partnership with explore.org.
- Concert goers filled up their reusable water bottles with 6,945 gallons of Brita-filtered water at the All At Once Water Stations which prevented over 55,000 single use plastic bottles from entering the waste stream. Over 6,000 concert goers took the Filter For Good pledge to become plastic free.
- Over 420 tons of waste were diverted from the landfill, through recycling and composting efforts at the shows.
- Over 26,000 gallons of sustainable biodiesel were used to power tour buses, trucks, and onsite generators. Over 200 concert goers organized carpool rides on Zimride resulting in over 100,000 carpool miles. These combined efforts saved over 200,000 pounds of CO2.
- Fans committed to save over 591 million food miles by eating locally grown food at least once per week. As part of a Farm to Stage catering program, the tour directed $18,000 to support over 50 local farms. The tour partnered with EatWellGuide.org to create 33 custom guides to help fans find fresh, local and sustainable food in each city the tour visited.
- All tour merchandise was made from sustainable materials with a focus on reusables and renewables. Fans purchased 2,715 reusable water bottles, which if used for one year, would prevent 509,062 single use plastic bottles from entering the waste stream. Fans purchased 9,605 reusable tote bags, which if used continuously for 1 year, would save an estimated 12.8 million barrels of oil and 14.9 million trees.
- 1.8 million pounds of CO2 were offset by over 7,000 concert goers who took action by either purchasing a Jack Johnson To The Sea offset at the shows or online. In addition, concert venues who fully implemented the Jack Johnson Green Rider, offset their remaining impact from the shows, totaling over 3.3 million pounds of CO2.
- After all conservation efforts were taken, the remaining 1,600 metric tons of CO2 emissions from the 2010 To The Sea tour were offset by supporting national and international projects like wind, solar and farm methane in communities where the tour traveled.
- Recorded using solar energy, printed on 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper, and carrying the 1% For The Planet logo, Jack Johnson’s new album, To The Sea, released byBrushfire Records, is paving the way for responsible CD production and packaging.
- Jack Johnson will donate 100% of his 2010 tour profits to charity!
During his To The Sea tour Jack helps out local non-profit organization in the “Village Green.” A stamp-incentive program helps thousands of people to engage with environmental/social non profits in their community. By collecting three out of the nine stamps (recycling something, capture your commitment, carpool, refill at water station, visit a non-profit, take mass transit, buy a CO2 offset, and donate to a non-profit) fans can win prizes. One prize was an autographed gift box with Jack Johnson albums and posters, and the grand prize was two tickets to sit on stage for the performance!
